Hackney is an inner London borough. The borough has no designated greenbelt land within its 1,906 hectare (7.36 square mile) area. However, 11.60% of the borough is Metropolitan Open Land.

The borough has 28 conservation areas, with a total area of around 481.88 hectares. That's around 25.28% of the borough's total area.

The council is currently under Labour control and in 2018 had an approximate population of 279,670.
